London is well supplied with airports, but the one that used to be simply called London Airport and is now known as Heathrow is still a very popular choice, and here’s why.
At just 14 miles west of central London, Heathrow is the UK’s biggest airport and, crucially, has excellent travel links with the city. What we’re looking at here is road travel with a van, and for van hire London Heathrow, things really couldn’t be simpler. Having collected your van at the airport, you will be taking the M4 and A4 into London, but of course all you will be looking for is the big signs saying London. Wherever in the world we are, we take it for granted that the airport authorities and the government’s transport department have worked out the best route, and it is in everybody’s interests to get travellers into “Town” as efficiently as possible.
That means it is not necessary to be totally reliant on satnav just yet, although the seasoned traveller will have had a good look at where exactly they need to go before they get on the road, and letting satnav know your destination from the outset makes sense. The last thing you want to do is get into the centre and then thread your way through tourist areas and suburbs to where you need to be.
The M25 is the main ring road, the big one that circles London, and it is not far from Heathrow, so if you this is going to be the magic carpet that keeps you out of the hurly burly of the centre, keep an eye out for it as soon as you get on the road. It’s well signposted, but it pays to be on your toes; you can’t relax just yet.
You will be pleased to see there are plenty of vans and trucks on the M25, and if it’s good enough for them, it should be good for you too. Further in, you will have the options of the older North Circular and South Circular roads.
As for the size of the vans, if you are allowed to drive one without a special licence, it will be of manageable dimensions, and although they feel more challenging to drive because of the limited visibility caused by metal walls and fewer windows, you should soon get used to it.
Take it easy speed-wise and try to relax.
