A pivotal moment occurred during a vacation in Boston in 1977 when he filled in for Charles Laquidara at WBCN-FM, leading to a permanent role as the midday host. Here, he introduced the spoof call-in show “Dr. Matt’s Advice to the Love Lorn.”

In the summer of 1980, Siegel received an offer for the morning slot at KISS 108 FM, marking the launch of the “Matty in the Morning” show on January 12, 1981. The show quickly became a Boston institution, known for Siegel’s comedic and light-hearted approach. Notably, during times of tragedy, such as September 11th and the Boston Marathon Bombings, he played a crucial role by providing updates and a calming presence to his listeners.

On May 19, 2021, Siegel announced on air that his bosses had instructed him to refrain from discussing the news of Demi Lovato announcing their non-binary identity, resulting in an abrupt end to the broadcast. However, he returned to the show the following day. Then, on May 3, 2022, after an unexplained two-week absence, Siegel officially announced his retirement.
