Making Money in RuneScape: The Mid-Level Boss Carapace in Normal Mode

    adminBy admin

Everyone knows that the super high-level bosses in RuneScape are really good money-makers. However, a lot of people aren’t quite at that point yet. You might not be killing Zamorak at 100% enrage over and over again consistently, and you might not be hunting down the super high GP rates of things like Raksha or Zuk in hard mode or high-enrage Telos. But if you’ve dipped your toes into PvM and are looking at some of the mid-level bosses to try and increase your gear and bank sizes, there’s a fantastic option available: Carapace in normal mode.

    Why Carapace in Normal Mode?

Carapace in normal mode is a fantastic option for several reasons:

    1. Accessibility: There are no hard requirements to take on this boss. While having higher-level gear will certainly help, even players with mid-level equipment can find success here.
    2. Consistent GP: The common drops from Carapace are incredibly valuable, leading to a steady stream of OSRS Gold income.
    3. Learning Curve: While there are mechanics to learn, they are manageable, especially with practice, and they provide a good foundation for tackling more challenging bosses later on.

    Recommended Gear

If you’re using necromancy, gear at level 70-80 or higher is recommended, especially your weapons. For other combat styles, aim for level 85-90 gear. In my experience, even using tier 90 magic gear (which is not the best option currently) can yield great results.

    Preparation and Strategy

    Potions and Boosts

Having base overloads is highly recommended. If you don’t have these, consider focusing on lower-level bosses or non-combat moneymaking methods to afford them. Overloads significantly boost your DPS and make your runs smoother and faster.

    Equipment and Inventory

    1. Weapons: Tier 85-90 weapons for your chosen combat style.
    2. Armor: Appropriate armor for your combat style, focusing on tankiness if needed.
    3. Accessories: DPS-boosting items like vulnerability bombs, enhanced Excalibur for healing, and any accessories that increase your damage output.
    4. Potions: Overloads, prayer renewal, and super restore potions.
    5. Food: High-healing food like sharks or rocktails, and adrenaline potions.

    Mechanics Overview

A carapace has four phases, each with its own set of mechanics. Here are a few tips to handle them effectively:

    1. First Mechanic: Stand underneath Carapace when he initiates his attack to avoid the mechanic altogether.
    2. Second Mechanic: Use the Escape ability (instead of Surge) to stay within attack range, ensuring you can continue dealing damage without repositioning.
    3. Lightning Mechanic: Use a Surge or Resonance to pass through the lightning safely.
    4. Final Phase: Use Time Warp to reset your strongest abilities and devotion for sustained DPS and defense.

    Loot and GP Per Hour

After two hours of killing Carapace with an average kill time of three minutes, I managed to gather nearly 30 million GP from common drops alone. Here’s a breakdown of what makes Carapace so profitable:

    1. Common Drops: Manuscripts of Jazz (around 1.2 million GP each), dragonkin bones (about 15k each), and various alchables like rune items and cannonballs.
    2. Rare Drops: While not frequent, rare drops like the Scripture of Jazz (around 12 million GP), Greater Concentrated Blast Codex, and Carapace wrist wraps add significant value when they do occur.
    3. Triple Loot: Every kill provides three loot piles if soloed, increasing the chances of valuable drops.

    Example Results

    From my two-hour session:

Common Drops: Nearly 30 million GP

Rare Drops: Two Scriptures of Jazz (24 million GP total)

Total Earnings: Approximately 52 million GP, averaging 26 million GP per hour

Even without rare drops, you’re looking at a solid 15 million GP per hour just from common drops at a three-minute kill time. Faster kill times will only increase this rate, potentially pushing your earnings to 25-30 million GP per hour.

    Tips and Tricks

    1. Fully Upgraded Pontifex Ring: Increases rare drop chances and access to tier three chests, which can yield additional valuable items.
    2. Escape Ability: Utilize Escape to handle the second mechanic effectively.
    3. Time Warp: Use Time Warp strategically to reset powerful abilities and handle the final phase with double devotion for better survivability.
    4. Trio vs. Solo: If you can’t solo, consider forming a trio. This way, everyone gets even loot, whereas in a duo, the person with the most damage gets more loot.

    Conclusion

Carapace in normal mode is an excellent mid-level boss for players looking to bridge the gap between entry-level PvM and high-level bossing. With consistent GP rates, manageable mechanics, and the potential for rare drops, it’s a great way to improve your gear and bank size. So gear up, practice the mechanics, and enjoy the steady stream of income from this fantastic boss. Good luck, and happy hunting!
