Janet Davies career
Janet Davies, who had served as an arts and entertainment reporter, program host, and the recognizable face of New Year’s Eve broadcasts on Chicago television for nearly forty years, officially ended her association with ABC-owned WLS-Channel 7. This announcement came via a Facebook post on Friday, where she also confirmed through a subsequent text message that she would not return as the host for ABC 7’s New Year’s Eve countdown this year.
In her heartfelt Facebook post, Davies expressed gratitude for her 37 years of work at 190 North State Street, ABC 7’s Loop studios. She humbly acknowledged the depth and breadth of her broadcasting career, attributing much of her growth to her dedicated colleagues at the station. Davies also praised Chicago viewers for their kindness, enlightenment, and the enduring significance of their stories. This surprising revelation followed ABC 7’s decision to not renew her contract as a freelance employee, her full-time status having ended back in 2013 when her long-running weekly show “190 North” was cancelled.
