Mark Allen Alford Sr., an American politician and former television news anchor, was born on October 4, 1963. Since 2023, he has been serving as the U.S. representative for Missouri’s 4th congressional district and is a member of the Republican Party.
Born in Baytown, Texas, Alford Sr. attended Sterling High School and the University of Texas at Austin, but he did not graduate. He started his journalism career at KPRC-TV in Houston, working as a reporter and weekend anchor for News 2 Houston from 1995 to 1998. Before that, he anchored at KDFW-TV in Dallas and reported at WPTV-TV in West Palm Beach, KWTX-TV in Waco, and KXAN-TV in Austin. In 1998, he became an anchor for Fox 4 News at WDAF-TV in Kansas City, where he stayed for 23 years before resigning on October 8, 2021.
In the 2022 elections, Alford Sr. announced his candidacy for the United States House of Representatives in Missouri’s 4th congressional district as a Republican. He won the Republican nomination in the August 2 primary election and later won the November 8 general election. In the House, he was one of the 71 Republicans who voted against the final passage of the Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2023. He also cast his vote in favor of supporting Israel following the 2023 Hamas attack on Israel.
